Who are we

What Kind of Program Is Hazelwood Prep

Hazelwood Prep began as a history-centered program grounded in research and thoughtfully integrated with language arts. From the very beginning, our goal was to help students not only learn what happened in the past, but to understand how stories, ideas, and primary sources shape the way we see the world today. Reading, writing, discussion, and critical thinking have always been at the heart of our academic approach.

During the COVID years, our community found a new way to stay connected and creative through Shakespeare in the Park. What started as a simple outdoor solution quickly grew into something much more meaningful. Theatre became a natural extension of our love for literature, history, and expression, and it soon became an integral part of the Hazelwood Prep experience. Students gained confidence, collaboration skills, and a deeper appreciation for language as they brought classic works to life.

Our core program still centers on history with language arts integration. Interestingly, this approach has always attracted more artistic learners, and over time our schedule evolved to reflect that strength. Today, our core program meets on Mondays and Wednesdays, with history and language arts in the morning and fine arts in the afternoon, allowing students to move naturally between academic study and creative expression.

For families seeking a full academic program, Hazelwood Prep offers structured science and math on Tuesday mornings, and has tutors who can help students with their studies as needed. Beyond academics, we host a full suite of clubs and electives on Tuesday afternoons, designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and community.

At Hazelwood Prep, we blend rigorous academics, creative expression, and a cooperative spirit to create a well-rounded program that supports both students and families on their homeschooling journey.
